Recognition and achievement
-- The Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau has recognized Rebecca Hancock, Jane Porath and Tony Anderson as "Community Champions" for their help in bringing conventions to Traverse City.
Hancock, incoming grand president of the International Shipmasters' Association, helped bring the organization's 2013 convention here.
Porath, a math teacher at Traverse City East Middle School, helped attract the Annual Conference of the Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 2012 and 2013.
Anderson, general manager of the Cherryland Rural Electric Cooperative, was instrumental in bringing 125 participants in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's 2013 summer school program to Traverse City.
-- Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire will celebrate 50 years in 2013. The three villages of Shanty Creek Resorts offer nearly 500 lodging options, 55 ski runs, multiple terrain parks including the new Monster Park, 30 km of Nordic trails, multiple dining options, a complete fitness center and wellness spa and other recreational opportunities on its 4,500 acres.
-- Mitchell Graphics of Petoskey is celebrating 40 years providing printing and digital services to northern Michigan. They employ more than 30 staff and have expanded product lines to include printing of catalogs, brochures, visitors' guides and other custom publications, as well as digital media and online services.
-- Brian Bartosh, president of Top O' Michigan Insurance, has been elected to serve on the 2012-2013 ID Federation, Inc. board of directors.
-- Laura Randall will serve as office manager and key client services associate at Horizon Financial in Traverse City.
-- Beccy Janis, Karly Wentzloff and Judy Crowe, realtors from Coldwell Banker Schmidt and members of the Women's Council of Realtors, attended the National Association of Realtors 2012 Realtors Conference and Expo in Orlando, Fla. Janis was a representative of the Traverse Area Association of Realtors board.
-- The Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds - Michigan has named Lori Tews as its new executive director. A native of Bay City, Tews holds a bachelors of arts degree in communication from Saginaw Valley State University.
-- The Builders Exchange of Northwest Michigan, Inc., has elected Devin Hill (Windemuller Electric), Mike Trippe (Bouma Corporation) and Jack Ocobock (D&W Mechanical) to serve on the board of directors for 2013. They join current board members Max Bott (Team Elmers), Darek Purgiel (Grand Traverse Construction), Mairin Lynch (Spence Brothers), Rick Smith (Alta Equipment), Denny Bogard (Plante Moran) and Jim Lewis (Hallmark Construction).
-- Lucy Wright, human resources director at Honor State Bank, will retire at the end of the year following a 38-year career. Wright started out as a teller and served as manager of the Benzonia branch.
