Sweet harmony

Traverse City — The local Sweet Adelines Chorus invites women of all ages to guest night.

Coffia gives speech

Fife Lake — Betsy Coffia, candidate for Grand Traverse County State Representative, will speak at a Town Hall Meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Fife Lake Library, 77 Lakecrest. A question and answer session follows.

Film and discussion

Bellaire — The Wednesday, July 25, "Art, Film, Philosophy" event will feature a film and group-led discussion.

Arts and crafts

Frankfort — The Congregational Summer Assembly's Arts and Crafts Fair will feature more than 100 artists.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Assembly ball field on M-22. A "Cottage Treasures" sale will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the assembly building, next to the ball field. There also will be a food tent and bake sale. For details, visit www.summerassembly.org.

Band entertains

Traverse City — The Northwestern Michigan College Community Band will perform Thursday, July 26, at the Summer Concert on the Lawn series.

The 50-member band will play Sousa marches and Broadway show tunes at 7 p.m. on the Grand Lawn at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, off Elmwood Avenue. Concessions will be available at 6:15 p.m.

Square dance

Gaylord — Northern Squares Square Dance Club will host an open dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Alten-Zimmer Senior Center, 120 Grandview Blvd. Admission is free; call (586) 634-0149.

Duo Art Opening

Traverse City — Seed Studio Gallery and Cog's Creek Gallery will host a Duo Art Hop Friday, July 27, leading into the Traverse City Film Festival.

"Genre, Script, Character" explores the subjects of location, people and words. It will open with a reception 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Seed Studio Gallery, 417 S. Union St. It may be viewed through Aug. 24. Call 264-9020.

"Substantial" features wood furniture by Larry Fox and metal furniture by Colin Germaine. It will open with a 5-8 p.m. reception at Cog's Creek Gallery, 124 N, Maple St., where it may be viewed through August. Call 620-0458.

Benefit concert

Suttons Bay — The Grand Traverse Show Chorus of Sweet Adelines will give a benefit concert to help the Leelanau Christian Neighbors fight hunger.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Suttons Bay Congregational Church, 218 W. Madison. Tickets are $10 each at The Business Helper, Suttons Bay; Two Fish Gallery, Leland; and Dolls and More, Northport.

Music series ends

Thompsonville — K. Jones & the Benzie Playboyz will close the Summer Sounds Concert series at Michigan Legacy Art Park.

The Cajun/zydeco band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the park on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort. Rides begin at 6:15 p.m. for those unable to walk the trail. In case of rain, the concert will be indoors at the resort.

Roller derby bouts

Traverse City — The Toxic Cherries and the Cherry Bombs will compete in a double header Saturday, July 28.

The first bout starts at 6 p.m. and the second bout at 8 p.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door if available, free for children 5 and younger. They can be purchased in Traverse City at Ben Franklin and Lifer Skate Shop, in Kalkaska at Cornell's Crossing, from derby skaters, and at www.brownpapertickets.com. Bluegrass Festival

Fife Lake — Springfield Recreation Area is the venue for the 11th annual Bluegrass Festival Saturday, July 28.

Music starts at noon at the recreation area at the corner of Lund and Creighton roads. Listeners should bring chairs and a dish to pass for a potluck. Admission is free; donations welcome. Call 357-0974.

Township party

Lake Ann — The Inland Township Festival will be held Saturday, July 28, at Inland Township Park on Lake Ann Road.
