Ruth Elaine Morgan

TRAVERSE CITY — Ruth was born on Feb. 15, 1931, in Traverse City, to Force L. and Maureen Moulton.

Upon graduation from Traverse City High School, she worked at Michigan Bell for several years.

On Sept. 18, 1954, she married Charles Morgan, and together they raised their girls, remaining lifelong residents of Traverse City.

After her kids started school full time, Ruth began working for the schools, too. First as a "lunch lady" and then at TBAISD, she loved her work with her "special needs" kids.

Upon her retirement, not wanting to leave the kids, she continued to volunteer at Central Grade School for many years.

Ruth was an avid reader, loved swimming and sunny days on her dock, as well as her water aerobics group at the Civic Center. Spending time with family, the days with Charlie and the antique car club, and playing with the grandkids in the lake were among her favorite times.

Preceding Ruth in death were her parents and her husband, Chuck (Charlie).

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Morgan, Charlene (Jim) Wilson and Pamela (Mark) Purvis; grandchildren, Adam (fiancée, Carolyn) Wilson, Nicole Purvis and Andrew Purvis; sisters, Helyne (Jim) Pennell and Linda Garvin; as well as several nieces.

A special thanks goes out to Debbie Baynton and the folks at Country Pleasures. Because of all of you, she was able to be outside and feel the fresh air on her face again before she died. Our gratitude is also extended to Hospice of Michigan — you are all priceless. Stefanie, Connie and Shelly, we were given more time with Mom because of your attention and care. We are very grateful to each of you.

Visitation for Ruth will take place today, July 22, from 5 until 7 p.m., at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 23, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Justin Grimm officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

Although flowers are very lovely, a gift to Hospice of Michigan will give over and over. Please make contributions in Ruth's name to Hospice of Michigan, 900 E. Front St., Traverse City, MI 49686.
