Five West swimmers head to state finals

HOLLAND -- Five Traverse City West swimmers will compete today in the Division 1 state finals at the Holland Aquatics Center.

Representing the Titans: Ellie Maleski, Shelby Newhouse, Sarah Brunner, Meghan Cepela and Kirtsen Palmer.

Newhouse is seeded 15th in the 100 breaststroke, Maleski 16th in the 100 backstroke and 33rd in the 50 freestyle, Brunner 28th in the 100 butterfly and Cepela 35th in the 50 freestyle.

In addition, Maleski, Newhouse, Cepela and Brunner are seeded 18th in the 200 medley relay.

Newhouse, Cepela, Brunner and Kirsten Palmer are seeded 31st in the 200 freestyle relay.

West had three divers compete in the regionals. Kendall Cox placed 16th, Allison Chauvette 22nd and Michelle Rizor 23rd.

The top 16 finishers in today's events advance to the finals Saturday.

TC West qualifies 4 for swim finals

Traverse City West will swim in four events in todays Division 1 state finals. Elly Maleski led the Titans by qualifying for three events in Fridays preliminary races, including the 200 medley relay with teammates Shelby Newhouse, Sarah Brunner and Meghan Cepela.
