TRAVERSE CITY -- Two down, two up.
After opening Big North Conference soccer play with losses to league leaders TC West and Petoskey, TC Central posted its second straight victory with a 5-2 win over Alpena.
The Trojans are 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
"We're getting ourselves sorted out," TC Central coach Rob Boynton said.
The Trojans got their offense going against the Wildcats (7-4-2, 0-2-2).
David Noble picked up the first goal for Central on a Trevor Osburn assist. Christian Groesbeck scored just over two minutes later on a Bennett Weckler helper.
Alpena got the first goal of the second half as Devin Kendziorski put in a rebound after Central's Dane Macdonell had stopped a penalty shot.
Groesbeck quickly restored the two-goal advantage with his second tally of the contest. Greg Merica picked up the assist.
Merica made the score 4-1 before Alpena's Isaac Mead answered. Osburn had the final goal of the game on a direct kick.
Macdonell finished with four saves for Central. Boynton credited Jordan deTar with dominating the midfield.
The Central JV rolled to an 8-0 victory against Alpena. Brian Roddy and Alex Gore had two goals for the Trojans (5-2-2) while Kevin Trippe, Ryan Keenan, Josh Lance and Bobby Buttrick had one.

Petoskey 1
Sole possession of the Big North Conference lead was on the line, but neither Traverse City West nor Petoskey could take it from the other.
The two teams played to a 1-1 standstill and remain in a tie for the league's top spot.
John Gourlay posted the first goal of the game for TC West (3-0-1, 6-3-1) when he scored off a header from Jake Trasalet 8 minutes into the match.
The Northmen answered 10 minutes later when a corner kick found traffic in front of the Titans net and Jason Mueller drove the ball to the net for the goal.
Alex Sanderson made seven saves in net for West while the Titans took six shots at the Petoskey keeper.
John Spencer stood out in the midfield for the Titans while Dan Gotshall led the defense.
Elk Rapids 9
Kalkaska 1
J.R. Vicente scored three goals and added an assist to lead Elk Rapids to a 9-1 Lake Michigan Conference win over Kalkaska.
The Elks (7-0, 8-4-1) had two goals and an assist from Andy Tezak while Jaren Jandoc and Bernardo Salomon each had a goal and two assists. Marc Michalski and Tucker Hogarth also scored.
Michalski, Verne LaLonde, Eric Arietta and Chance Dittrich led the defensive effort for Elk Rapids. Mike Roote had three saves in net.
Harbor Springs 2
East Jordan 1
Patrick Frank scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half, as Harbor Springs edged East Jordan 2-1 in Lake Michigan Conference play.
Morgan Tinney tallied for East Jordan.

Glen Lake/Leelanau 0
Elk Rapids traveled to Glen Lake and emerged with an 8-0 non-conference victory.
The win moved the Elks to 7-0-1.
Aaron Mayes had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while Max Bauer won the second flight 6-2, 6-1, Donnie Fedrigon took the third flight 6-0, 6-0 and Sam Naples won at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3.
Nick Viglione and Frank Israel teamed for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, Kyle Hoover and Josh Mosher had a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 win at the second flight, Dan DeRosha and Billy Wolfington teamed for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 while Daniel Parlin and E.J. Campbell won the fourth flight 6-0, 6-0.

Traverse City Central's JV took on a short-staffed Ludington squad Thursday and earned a 5-0 win.
Caleb Morgan, Jared Klunder and Kenton Wicksall all won in singles action for the Trojans. Joey Janik and Phillip Hannawalt teamed for a doubles win, as well as Chris Hicks and Tom Earls.

Traverse City West's Gold team swept doubles and also picked up a singles win for a 5-4 home victory over St. Francis Thursday.
J.J. Chouinard and Tyler Harris teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles for the Titans while Willy Hanrahan and Ben Greenman took the second flight, Mac Templeton and Andrew Baker won at No. 3 and Joe Caldwell and Tim Durham took the fourth flight
Graeme Pacek won at No. 2 singles for TC West.
St. Francis had singles wins from Stephen Siddall, Sean Leonhard, Alex Schmidt and Riley Corcoran.
VOLLEYBALL

Traverse City Christian beat Buckley 25-21, 25-11, 25-7.
The Sabres -- ranked No. 6 in the Class D poll -- improved to 19-2 on the season.
Callie Kostzewa had four kills and three digs for TC Christian while Jenna Finney scored three kills and two digs. Megan Terpstra and Bethanie Hansen had 100 percent serving.

It went down to the wire, but Traverse City St. Francis was able to hold on for a five-set win over visiting Boyne City.
The Gladiators moved to 3-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference with the 25-27, 25-20, 13-25, 25-21, 16-14 win.

Elise Campbell had 10 kills and five aces to lead Grand Traverse Academy to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-11 victory over Cadillac Heritage.
Rachel Zeppa added five kills, three digs and one ace for the Mustangs (11-7). Kaitlin Schwartz had four assists, two digs and one ace, Mariah Hessem four aces, Hannah Schwanke two aces and four assists and Joanna Tarbell two aces.

Host Petoskey remained unbeaten Thursday with a 52-23 Big North Conference win over Traverse City Central.
Dillon Lizenby and Dylan Roe each had rushing touchdowns for the Trojans (1-1, 2-2) while Gwin Lord had a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Lizenby connected with Roe for a two-point conversion to finish the scoring.

West's Brett Kenny scored three touchdowns, but the Cadillac JV pulled out a 36-30 win.
Colin Richards also scored for the Titans (1-3). Richards also had two two-point conversions and Julius Sleder one.
The West freshmen won 24-12 to improve to 1-2.
TC St. Francis JV 48

Traverse City St. Francis gave up a touchdown in the first 2 minutes Thursday, but it would be the only points Charlevoix would manage the rest of the night.
The Gladiators (2-0, 3-1) rolled to a 48-6 road victory in Lake Michigan Conference action.
Will Grombala rushed for two touchdowns -- including a 50-yarder -- and also caught a 4-yard pass from Dylan Siebert.
Jack Jamison, Tyler Hansen, Ryan McDonnell and Riley O'Neil all rushed for scores for the Gladiators.
The Charlevoix TD came on a 70-yard pass from Dylan Sladek to Jordan Jones.
SWIMMING
Ludington 107
TC Central 75
Host Ludington handed Traverse City Central a 107-75 loss Thursday in Coastal Swim Conference action.
Claire Wodzien had the lone first-place finish for the Trojans (0-1, 1-1) by winning the 500-yard freestyle in 6 minutes, 4.56 seconds. She was also second in the 200 IM in 2:39.29.
TC Central was second in the 200 freestyle (2:08.56) with Lauren Rockafellow, Kami Hundley, Talia Gerstle and Alaina Korreck.
Gerstle was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:34.89) while Wodzien, Rockafellow, Kennedy Cullen and Michelle Rizor were runner-up in the 400 free (4:38.62).
