West swimmers lap competition

Traverse City left the rest of the Coastal Swim Conference in its wake at the league championships.

The Titans won convincingly with 542 points, well ahead of runner-up Spring Lake's 435. TC Central was sixth with 156.

West swept the top three in two events, as Shelby Newhouse, Sarah Brunner and Paige Rogers topped the 200 individual medley field and Amy Brunner, Sarah Brunner and Shea Williams were 1-2-3 in the 100 butterfly. Megan Younker added a seventh-place 200 IM finish. The top eight in each event received medals.

Erin Holstad won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.10, with teammates Kirsten Palmer and Paige Keith in fourth and fifth. Holstad also won the 500 free in 5:38.76, with Williams third, Keith fifth and Palmer sixth.

The 200 medley relay team of Elly Maleski, Newhouse, Amy Brunner and Rogers won in 1:53.31.

Amy Brunner won the 50 free in 25.56 seconds, with Kate Reed sixth and Meghan Cepela eighth.

Newhouse claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.94, with Jane Hinsenkamp sixth.

Maleski was second in both the 100 free and 100 back. Reed was fourth in the 100 free and Rogers and Younker were fifth and seventh in the 100 back.

The 400 free relay team of Holstad, Maleski and the Brunners won in 3:48.72.

Makenzie Tremp and Kendall Cox were second and fourth in diving. Central's Michelle Rizor was seventh, as all three qualified for regionals Nov. 18.

Claire Wodzien was third for Central in the 200 freestyle and second in the 500 free. The 200 freestyle relay team of Megan Vermetten, Kami Hundley, Talia Gerstle and Alaina Korreck was sixth.

The 400 free relay team (Kennedy Cullen, Wodzien, Lauren Rockafellow, Rizor) was fourth, while the 200 medley relay team (Rockafellow, Vermetten, Rizor, Hundley) was seventh.
