Prep Roundup: Serving paces Suttons Bay

LELAND -- Suttons Bay turned in a near perfect serving night for a Northwest Conference win over Leland Tuesday.

The Norse (13-5-4, 2-0 NWC) won 25-13, 25-13, 17-25, 25-21.

Justine Sourie (20-20), Hannah Olson (16-16), Hildi Forton (16-16), Angela Patterson (12-12) and Kyra Shively (10-10) were perfect serving while Emily Send (14-15) missed once.

Forton added 27 assists and six digs, Shively had eight kills and eight digs, Patterson had four kills, Send had nine kills, Olson added 11 kills and 18 digs while Sourie had five aces, five kills and 13 digs.

The Comets (7-12, 0-2 NWC) had 10 kills, 10 digs and four blocks from Elizabeth McKee, 10 kills and two blocks from Sammie Nowak, six kills and 14 digs from Sarah Ruszel, 22 assists from Hannah Schaub and 13 digs from Melissa Loredo.

The Norse will play again Saturday at Bay City Central while Leland is off until next week.

Grayling 1

Elk Rapids bounced back from a first-set loss for a Lake Michigan Conference win over Grayling.

The Elks (12-11, 1-1 LMC) took the win 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.

Olivia Morrison had eight assists, eight digs and three aces for Elk Rapids while Jessie Spoor had eight kills, five blocks and four aces, Sarah Otte had six kills and two digs and Sami Matthews added three aces.

Mesick 1

Benzie picked up a 26-24, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15 Northwest Conference win at Mesick.

The Huskies (19-7, 2-0 NWC) had 12 kills, 18 digs and six blocks from Haeley Melton, 17 kills and four blocks from Sara Thurkettle, 15 kills from Kayley Moore, 41 assists and six digs from Raenee Harig, 15 digs from Kate Masell and nine digs from Jenna Scheele.

Kingsley wins tri with Buckley, Manistee

Kingsley earned straight-set wins over Buckley and Manistee.

The match with the Bears was for the Northwest Conference and the Stags (21-3, 2-0 NWC) won 25-18, 25-17, 25-10. Then in non-conference action, Kingsley beat Manistee 25-16, 25-13.

Hannah Bach had 22 kills and six digs for the Stags while Sam Zubalik had eight kills, 17 digs and 13 aces. Lauren Leach had nine kills, Katie Nickerson had 17 digs while Erica Berridge added 34 assists, 24 digs and six aces.

Gaylord St. Mary 0

Pellston was 72-for-73 serving in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 Ski Valley Conference win over Gaylord St. Mary.

The Hornets (19-3-4, 3-0 SVC) had 19 kills and 16 blocks from Katie Dzedzie, 16 kills and 13 digs from Tayler Friend, 15 assists from Chelsea Bonter and 12 assists from Samantha McNitt.

Mancelona 1

Central Lake picked up a 25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18 Ski Valley Conference win over Mancelona.

Jasmine Hines had 14 kills and six blocks for the Trojans while Heidi Hicks had 13 kills and nine aces. Shantelle Adams had 11 kills for Mancelona.

Bellaire 0

Katie Johnson had 21 assists and Mae Johnson 11 kills as Forest Area beat Bellaire 25-14, 25-8, 25-18 in a Ski Valley Conference match.

Kassie Magee (six kills, five digs) and Camille Tornow (four kills, five digs, 20 for 20 serving) also starred for the Warriors (18-4, 3-0).

Alpena 0

Traverse City Central moved to 4-0 in the Big North Conference with an 8-0 sweep of Alpena at home.

The Trojans had 6-0, 6-0 wins from Hunter Bergsma, Max Lundmark and Harry Malone at the top three singles while No. 4 Caleb Morgan won by default.

In doubles, Chris Heimburger/Peter Pappas won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 flight and Matt Coleman/Jack Raymond won No. 2 6-1, 6-0. The teams of Clark Phelps/Spencer Potter and Mark Jones/Erik Krueger won by default.

Elk Rapids 3

The Leelanau co-op team earned a 5-3 win over Elk Rapids.

Leelanau (5-3) swept doubles with Wyatt Smith/Caleb Abbott (6-1, 6-2), Adam Scarbrough/Clay Wolin (6-1, 6-0), Simon Kohler/Andrew Campbell (6-0, 6-3) and Matt Brown/Jacob Strkenberg (6-0, 6-0). Ed Yan also had a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Donnie Fedrigon (6-1, 6-1), Kyle Hoover (6-3, 7-6) and E.J. Campbell (7-5, 6-1) had singles wins for Elk Rapids.

TC St. Francis Gold JV 1

Traverse City West's JV won a 7-1 non-conference dual against the St. Francis Gold JV.

Alex Schmitz (2-6, 6-1, 7-5) was the lone win for SF at No. 1 singles.

West had singles wins from Carter Payne (6-0, 6-1), Charlie Pacer (6-2, 6-0) and Tyler Harris (6-0, 6-0).

Winning doubles teams included Andrew Baker/Tyler Makrin (6-1, 6-3), Sam Sanderson/Curtis Brengman (6-1, 6-4), Willie Hanrahan/Luke Piotrowski (6-1, 6-2) and Max Hughes/Ben Greenman (6-1, 6-0).

Fairview 1

Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian earned a 3-1 Northern Michigan Soccer League win over Fairview.

The Eagles (8-3, 5-1 NMSL) had a goal and an assist from Aaron Chatfield while Jake Lovitt and Stephen Thompson each scored. David Thompson added an assist.

Josh Lovitt was in net for Burt Lake NMC and made eight saves.

CROSS COUNTRY

Ludington sweeps

Adrian Martinez took overall honors as Ludington took the top five spots in winning a tri-meet at Manistee.

The Orioles finished with 15 points, Manistee 59 and Mason County Eastern 65.

Martinez was timed in 18:08.

Ludington won the girls race with 20 points. Manistee had 41. Manistee's Kelly Schubert was the overall winner in 21:31.
