Roundup: Suttons Bay posts soccer win

SUTTONS BAY -- Leading 2-0 at halftime, Suttons Bay stormed out with four goals in the second half to take a 6-0 Great Northwest Conference game from Northport.

Ryan Manning and Bobby Latorre gave the Norse (9-5-2, 6-2-1 GNC) a 2-0 halftime advantage. Evan Glowicki and Martin Stowe assisted on the goals.

Danny Holmes, Jesse Bunker, Garrett Bassett and Jonathan Herman scored inthe second half off assists by Manning, Stowe and Clayton Queen.

Jared Orban and Ian Plamondon split time in goal for Division 4 No. 10-ranked Suttons Bay, which hosts Division 3 No. 7-ranked Charlevoix on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Leland defeated Buckley 4-0 in Great Northwest Conference action on Wednesday.

No further details were reported.

Leland hosts Bellaire on Friday while Buckley entertains Benzie next Monday.

Julian Hills scored off an Andrew Worden corner kick to lift Benzie Central to a 1-0 win over Glen Lake.

Ian VanDeperre had the shutout for the Huskies in goal.

Benzie is at Buckley on Monday. Glen Lake hosts Traverse City Christian on Monday.

TC Central JV Black wins 6 of 9 flights

Traverse City Central's JV Black took six flights in the Clay Court Invitational at the Homestead.

The tournament -- originally slated for a larger field -- ended up as a two-team meet after it was postponed by rain.

Central and Leelanau played two matches against each other in each flight to determine a champion.

Winners for the Trojans were Matt Shaw Trey Pezzetti, Marc Haberman, Keegan Hall in singles, and Daniel Fedor/Philip Hanawalt and Alex Hushak/Chris Hicks in doubles.

Leelanau's winners were Pedro Macahdo and the doubles teams of Adam Scarbrough/Clay Wolin and Simon Kohler/Leif Vanderwerff.

Leelanau returns to action next Monday in the Twin Bay Invitational at Traverse City Central.

TC Central JV Gold 1

Traverse City St. Francis' JV Gold won all four singles flights en route to a 7-1 win over TC Central's JV Gold.

SF's singles winners were Alex Schmitz (6-4, 6-4), Kolter Hornyak (4-6, 6-0, 11-9), Jamie Marsh (4-6, 6-2, 10-8) and Buddy Eckhoff (default).

The Gladiators also had doubles victories by Danny Barnes/Mike Kirby (6-1, 6-3), Corey Boudrei/Christian Tremp (6-3, 6-1) and Ben Alpers/Cole Gingras (6-3, 6-2).

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Jeff McAndrews and Alex Sheridan was Central's only winner, registering a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

The St. Francis JV Gold finishes the season with a 7-4 record in dual meets.

VOLLEYBALL

Brianna Podsaid's seven kills and a block led Traverse City Central to a 25-23, 15-25, 25-17 junior varsity win over Traverse City West.

Brittany Bell added 12 assists for the Trojans (19-3-3, 5-2 Big North Conference), while Anna Krueger had a strong floor game.

West was led by Lauren Ellison (seven digs, seven kills), Alyssa Bailey (15 assists), Ressa Borkovich (seven kills, three blocks), Colby Fortin (seven digs) and Sara Reese (served 14 straight points).

Meanwhile, the TC West freshmen volleyball team competed in a tournament at Fowlerville.

The Titans took second in the 10-team field.

Leading the way: Juliet Nagy (13 aces), Megan Traines (10 kills) and Kascha Sanor (17 digs).
