Turkoglu banned 20 games for steroids
NEW YORK — Hedo Turkoglu of the Orlando Magic has been suspended by the NBA for 20 games after he tested positive for steroids.
The NBA announced the penalty Wednesday. Turkoglu tested positive for methenolone, an anabolic steroid.
Turkoglu will begin serving the suspension Wednesday night in Orlando's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
The 33-year-old forward from Turkey is in the third year of his second stint with the Magic. He is averaging 2.9 points, 2.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds, all down from his career numbers over the previous 12 seasons.
Granger not coming back yet for Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS — Danny Granger's return to Indiana's lineup has been delayed by an illness.
Indiana was hoping to have Granger on Wednesday night against Charlotte, but coach Frank Vogel said after the team's Wednesday morning shootaround that Granger stayed home with flulike symptoms. Vogel says Granger's left knee responded well to the most demanding practice he's had since being diagnosed with patellar tendinosis in November, though even if he was feeling well he may not have played.
Granger hasn't played yet this season, and Vogel says he's not "quite ready" to return.
Jackets hire first European as GM
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets hurried to make history.
Just more than 24 hours after firing Scott Howson, they announced the hiring of Jarmo Kekalainen of Finland as the first European to be a general manager in the National Hockey League.
Kekalainen, director of amateur scouting with the St. Louis Blues 2002-10, held a news conference Wednesday in his native Finland at the same time the Blue Jackets Blue Jackets held theirs in Ohio.
The 46-year-old, who played sparingly in the NHL, worked closely with Columbus director of hockey operations John Davidson with the Blues.
