CRESTWOOD, Ill. —
Traverse City won its sixth straight game, putting up a 9-3 victory over Windy City.
The win, coupled with Southern Illinois' 4-2 loss to Evansville, put the Beach Bums three games up on the Miners and Florence Freedom in the East Division.
Traverse City erupted for four runs in the fourth, as Ryan Still singled in Chris Kay, Brian Heere singled in Kyle Eveland and Still, and Heere came in on a Jose Vargas sacrifice fly.
Still scored in the third on an Andy Chriscaden error on a Vargas hit.
Windy City scored twice in the fifth, and TC starter Brooks Belter (3-0) would depart in the sixth after giving up five hits, two walks and two runs in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
The Beach Bums added another run in the eighth on a Marcus Nidiffer double that brought in Jeff Flagg.
Scott Dunn came on in relief of Matt Miller in the eighth with the bases loaded, only one out and one run already in, but was able to get a pop fly and a groundout to end the threat. Miller went 3.1 innings, allowing just one run.
The Bums replied with two runs in the top of the ninth when Eveland came home on a wild pitch and Still came across on a Kyle Colligan sacrifice fly.
Dunn stayed on to close it out with a hitless ninth.
