TRAVERSE CITY — William Kukla, 98, of Traverse City, passed away Feb. 5, 2013, at Munson Medical Center. William was born in Traverse City on July 23, 1914, to John and Antonie (Federcel) Kukla.
William worked as a farm hand and did cherry canning in his younger years. In 1935 he attended Diesel Engineering School in Detroit, and was there employed by General Fire Truck and Marquette Tool and Die as a large machinery repairman. At age 72, William retired and moved back to Traverse City to be closer to family.
William joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in December 1941 and served for four years during World War II as an aircraft mechanic in the 44th Air Depot Squadron. His duty took him to Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.
William is survived by his nephew Dale (Patricia) Kukla. He was preceded in death by his brothers John and Jerome Kukla, and nephews James C., John and Jerry Kukla.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at with visitation one hour prior at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Please share your fond memories and condolences at www.CovellFuneralHomes.com.
