Track Roundup: Harbor Springs sweeps

BELLAIRE -- Harbor Springs ran away with a Division 4 regional track title Saturday at Bellaire.

The Rams scored 181 points in the boys' meet while Bellaire was second with 67.

Harbor Springs qualified Ray Foster in both the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 3 inches and the discus (129-5).

Kyle Nowels won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.51 seconds and the 300 hurdles (42.09), Tec Adams won the 1600 (4:17.44) and 3200 (9:32.8), and Michael Sydow won the 800 (2:07.89) while Patrick Frank was second (2:09.62).

The Rams swept the relays, taking the 1600 (3:41.85), 3200 (8:37.08), 800 (1:36.25) and 400 (46.92). Other qualifiers included Clayton Bethke in the pole vault (10-6), Mike Vandermus in the high jump (5-7) and both Alan McCarty (10:23.64) and Jacob Brushaber (10:25.82) in the 3200.

Bellaire's Ethan Murray qualified in four events, including the 400 (53.38), the 200 (23.81), the 100 (11.11) and the long jump (19-9). The Eagles also advanced Donavan Dawson in the 110 hurdles (16.21).

Gaylord St. Mary's Clay Becker won the 200 (23.39) while Arron Sitkiewicz was second in the shot put (46-1).

The Snowbirds also qualified in the 400 (47.2),

Central Lake's Nolan Howes qualified in the discus (123-9), Inland Lake's Justin Flowers was second in the 100 (11.47), Ellsworth's Ashton Fisher qualified in the 1600 (4:31.51) and 3200 (10:12.88) while Bryan Tucker from Onaway advanced in the 300 hurdles (43.21).

In the girls' meet, Harbor Springs won with 117 points, followed by Inland Lakes (98) and Fairview (82).

The Rams had won championships with Katie Hoffman in the 3200 (12:34.26), Caitlin Reeves in the 800 (2:24.66), Elena Ongaro in the 100 (13.32), Maddie Buntin in the 1600 (5:38.33), and the 3200 (10:19.88), 1600 (4:26.62) and 800 relays (1:55.65).

Other Harbor Springs qualifiers included Jessica Hall in the 3200 (12.36.07), Buntin in the 800 (2:34.54) and Melissa York in the long jump (14-7).

Central Lake's Jasmine Hines won the discus (101-5) and the shot put (37-2).

Inland Lakes advanced Brianna Ohler in the pole vault (8-6), Megan Bruniquel in the 100 hurdles (16.54) and 300 hurdles (50.23), Becky Rotter in both the 400 (1:02.22) and 200 (28.33), Rebecka Hair in the discus (86-9), as well as the 400 (54.5) and 800 (1:54.63) relay teams.

Pellston's Taylor Friend advanced in the high jump (5-2) while Megan Jackson was second in the 100 hurdles (17.18) and Abby Budzik was runner-up in the 400 (1:02.49).

Other area qualifiers included Onaway's Payton Lupu in the shot put (32-6.5), Bellaire's Emily Kwekel in the high jump (4-10) and 1600 (5:40.02), and Johannesburg-Lewiston in the 1600 (4:37.87) and 3200 relays (11:06.86).

D-4 at Frankfort

By half a point, Manton's boys held off Traverse City St. Francis for the Division 4 regional title.

The Rangers finished second (3:36.29) in the 1600 relay to the Gladiators (3:35.33) to secure the regional with 154 points. St. Francis had 153.5 points for second while McBain was third with 90.

Manton's winners included Ryan Bredahl in the high jump (6-0), Darren Morris in the 110 hurdles (15.32) and 300 hurdles (40.14) and the 800 relay (1:35.14).

The Rangers also qualified Jasper Woodcock in the pole vault (12-0), Ben Denomme in the shot put (46-4.25) and discus (138-8), and Bredahl in the 800 (2:04.57).

St. Francis' Adam Karpinski won the pole vault (13-0) while Ryan Farley was second (12-0). Marc Kanitz won the 400 (52.93), Corey Williams took the 800 (2:01.72), Ben Swan won the 200 (23.35) and Brady Mikula won the long jump (19-5.75).

James Alpers was second in the 3200 (10:16.5) while Ricky Woods was third (10:24.6). Taylor Hennrick was third in the 110 hurdles (15.53) and the 300 hurdles (41.39).

Forest Area's Justin Gordon won the 100 (11.28) while teammate A.J. Freeman was second (11.38). Freeman also qualified in the 200 (23.5).

McBain Northern Michigan Christian's Nathan DeKam won the discus (148-10) and shot put (36-7.25). Onekama's Cody Graf won the 3200 (10:16.1) while Parker Johnson qualified in the pole vault (12-9) and Jaron Llewellyn in the 800 (2:02.25).

McBain's qualifiers included Cody King in the high jump (6-0) and 200 (23.42), Jordan Smith in both the 110 hurdles (16.0) and 300 hurdles (42.29) and Brandon Westmaas in the pole vault (11-6).

Buckley qualified Zach Hartzell in the high jump (6-0), Onekama advanced Tyler Fogarty in the pole vault (11-6) while Frankfort's Scott Tousley qualified in the 110 hurdles (15.41) and 300 hurdles (40.85).

Relay qualifiers from the region were McBain (45.48) and St. Francis (45.91) in the 400, St. Francis in the 800 (1:35.5), Frankfort in the 1600 (3:36.75) and Onekama (8:31.59) and Manton (8:46.87) in the 3200.

In the girls' meet, Manton won with 126 points, followed by McBain with 90 and St. Francis with 69.

The Rangers went 1-2 in the 3200 as Stephanie Ingraham (12:21.29) beat Kim Devore (12:36.04). Ingraham also qualified in the 1600 (5:35.15) while Shellbey Stieg won the high jump (5-0).

Other Manton qualifiers included Liz Baller in the long jump (15-8), Giselle Gomez (16.39) and Sonny Jenkins (16.8) both in the 100 hurdles and Stacey Baron in the 800 (2:29.01).

Hannah Meachum won the 100 hurdles for St. Francis in 15.55, the pole vault (10-6) and was second in the 300 hurdles (48.88). Morgan McCardel won the 1600 (5:25.9) and Katy Olsen was third in the 800 (2:29.3).

McBain's Megan Vandervlucht won the long jump (15-8.75) while Jessica Brandt qualified in the shot put (33-7).

Rachel Zeppa from Grand Traverse Academy won the 100 dash (12.47), the 200 (26.81) while Stephanie Horning qualified in the 400 (1:01.75).

TC Christian's Emily Ritsema won the 800 (2:28.31) and qualified in the 1600 (5:36.35) while Emily Nienhouse qualified in the 400 (1:01.68) and 200 (27.27).

Buckley's Haley Baldinger won the 400 (1:00.18) and was second in the 100 dash (12.82) while Haley Morairty qualified in the 1600 (5:32.56) and Emily Gibler in the shot put (33-10.5).

McBain NMC advanced Brittannee Wilson in the 200 (27.68) and 300 hurdles (48.34), Tanis Rozeveld in the high jump (5-0) and Jane Pearson in the 400 (1:01.14).

Other qualifiers included Glen Lake's Dani Frost in the shot put (34-7), Onekama's Jaylee Brown in the pole vault (9-0) and 100 hurdles (16.51), Frankfort's Keeton Spencley in the 400 (1:01.57), Brethren's Rebecca Priest in the 300 hurdles (50.19), and Forest Area's Katie Johnson in the 300 hurdles (50.39) and 100 hurdles (16.47).

McBain (53.3) and St. Francis (53.92) advanced in the 400 relay, McBain (1:52.06) and TC Christian (1:53.24) moved on in the 800 relay, TC Christian (4:21.15), Manton (4:21.8) and Frankfort (4:22.72) qualified in the 1600 while Manton (10:17.82) and Frankfort (10:22.07) were 3200 state qualifiers.
