CENTRAL LAKE -- Forest Area won its first conference track title since 1983 Wednesday when the Warriors edged Onaway 134-131 to take the Ski Valley crown.
The Warriors did it in dramatic fashion, too, beating Onaway in the meet's last race, the 1600 relay (3:42.60 to 3:44.80).
In addition to winning the 1600 relay, the Warriors captured the 400 relay (45.97). Luke Rookus added a win in the 800 (2:11.20).
Bellaire finished third (99.50). The Eagles were followed by Gaylord St. Mary (60), Inland Lakes (53), Pellston (43), Johannesburg-Lewiston (41), Central Lake (40) and Mancelona (29.5).
Bellaire's Ethan Murray was the day's individual star, winning the long jump (17'11.75"), 100 (10.93), 200 (22.90) and 400 (52.20). Teammate Donavan Dawson took three events -- the pole vault (10'), 110 high hurdles (15.88) and 300 intermediates (44.95).
St. Mary's Arron Sitkiewicz swept the shot put (131'5.5") and discus (42'4").
Other winners: Pellston's Brandon Lewis in the high jump (5'6"), Central Lake's Jordan Becker in the 3200 (11:07.50), St. Mary's Michael Topp in the 1600 (4:58.70), Johannesburg in the 800 relay (1:39.50) and Onaway in the 3200 relay (9:14).

Cardinals take crown
Despite not winning a single event, Johannesburg-Lewiston captured the girls crown with 131 points. Inland Lakes placed second (118). The Bulldogs were followed by Onaway (86.5), Central Lake (63), Bellaire (57), Mancelona (54.5), Pellston (48.5), Forest Area (37) and Gaylord St. Mary (35.5).
Central Lake's Jasmine Hines and Forest Area's Marissa Ingersoll were double-winners. Hines prevailed in the shot put (39'9.5") and discus (107'9") while Ingersoll captured the 100 (13.11) and 200 (27.0).
Other winners: Pellston's Taylor Friend in the high jump (5'2"), Inland Lakes' Brianna Ohlert in the pole vault (8'6"), Onaway's Lindsay Self in the long jump (13'1.75"), Central Lake's Sarah Lambert in the 3200 (13:19.40), Inland Lakes' Megan Bruniquel in the 100 hurdles (16.64), Onaway's Allie Nave in the 800 (2:36.10), Bellaire's Emily Kwekel in the 1600 (5:52.90), Inland Lakes' Becky Rotter in the 400 (1:04.70), and Forest Area's Katie Johnson in the 300 hurdles (51.70).
Mancelona won the 400 relay (54.46), Inland Lakes the 800 (1:56.70), Gaylord St. Mary the 1600 (4:37.90) and Onaway the 3200 (11:07.50).
