Prep Track: Dancer wins Bell Award

TRAVERSE CITY -- Senior Evan Dancer received the Ken Bell Award at the Traverse City Central boys track team banquet Wednesday.

The award is given to the athlete who combines dedication, team work and hard work with outstanding performance.

Some 107 athletes received varsity and JV awards. There were 65 scholar-athlete awards presented for grade point averages of 3.5 or better.

Other award winners:

The 400 relay team of Tyler Clark, Ben Broad, Mike Heim and Blair Bell won the Top Gun Award for most outstanding sprinter.

Dancer took the Coaches Cup for most outstanding distance runner.

James Barbera took the Hang Time Award for most outstanding field event athlete.

Clark was named most outstanding freshman, Nick Alpers most outstanding sophomore, Heim most outstanding junior and Bell most outstanding senior.

The 400 relay team was recognized for setting a school record.

Bell, Ray Gidley, Jacob Borysiak, Reece Karbowski, Peter Johnson, Shawn Serrell, Calvin Miller and Dancer were honored as team captains.

The Trojans, who won the Big North Conference, had 13 all-league athletes and nine state finalists.
