FRANKFORT — Shirley Kay Soderquist, 76, of Frankfort, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Fla.
She was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Frankfort, the daughter of Peter and Beatrice (Green) Lysdal.
With her husband, Earl, Shirley founded Honor Hardware and Building Supply in 1963. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Frankfort and the Benzie Area Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #405 in Honor.
Shirley was a talented vocalist and musician. She was a member of her church choir and a past member of the Benzie County Community Chorus. She was dedicated to her children and served on the PTA at Platte River Elementary for many years. She served her community in many capacities and served as the chairperson of the Coho Queen Committee.
Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her family, and those she leaves behind will forever feel blessed to have had such a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
On Oct. 11, 1953, at Frankfort United Methodist Church, Shirley married Earl Eric Soderquist, who survives. She is also survived by her daughters, Lynn Hopkins, of Benzonia, Terri (Paul) Edinger, of Lakeland, Fla., Barb (Steve) Hanna, of Fowlerville, and Mary (Doug) Rodriguez, of Beulah; nine grandchildren, Hope Marie Edinger, Paul (Amber) Edinger IV, Hilary Hopkins, Josh (Samantha) Hanna, Sara Hopkins, Travis Edinger, Jeremy Edinger, Allison Hanna and Hannah Rodriguez; and five great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Frederick Keith Phillippi; her brother, Jack Lysdal; and her son-in-law, Thomas Hopkins.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at First Congregational Church of Frankfort, with Pastor Dinah Haag officiating. Interment will follow in the Crystal Lake Township North Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church of Frankfort.
