Verna M. Darling

KINGSLEY — Verna M. Darling passed away in her sleep at her home, which she shared with her son and daughter-in-law in Kingsley.

Verna was born to Reinhold Hoffman and Anna Smeltz in Wilkensburg, Pa., on Jan. 9, 1921. On April 7, 1939, Verna married the love of her life, John C. Darling.

In 1968, Verna retired from Truck & Coach in Pontiac after 25 years of service. At that time, John and Verna moved to Kingsley. Verna worked at Chef Pierre for 15 years before retiring.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Gladys Halicek; grandson Phillip Halicek; granddaughter, Jennifer Bristol; sisters, Martha, Dorothy, Lydia and Betty; and brothers, Harvey and Eugene.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia (Tom) Seyler, Cheryl (Chuck) Quick, Ronald (Cheryl) Darling, Donna (Edward) Krause and Cindy Fulk; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister, Viola Golombisky; a brother, Robert (Janet) Hoffman, and a sister-in-law, Betty Hoffman.

A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. at Schelde's Restaurant in Traverse City.
