TRAVERSE CITY — Janet K. Harvey went home to heaven on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. She was born on Thursday, Sept. 1, 1949, in Traverse City, the daughter of Kenneth and Katherine (Witkop) Harvey.
Following her graduation from Traverse City Senior High School, she continued her education to become a nurse. After graduating from NMC as an LPN, she worked at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital until it merged with Munson Medical Center. After that she was one of the first nurses at the MMC Family Practice Clinic and worked there until her retirement in 2007. She made many friends among the staff, physicians, the student physicians, and patients there.
Janet was a loving person who touched many lives through her calling as a nurse and by her kind and loving personality. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family and friends, and especially loved spending time with her new granddaughter, Kendall. Jan also enjoyed working in her flower garden and being outside. She attended West Side Community Church.
Janet is survived by her son, Shawn, and his wife, Holli, as well as her granddaughter, Kendall. Also surviving are her brother, Dr. Albert (Marsha) Harvey of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sister, Beverly (Dr. David) Wilcox of Traverse City; her nieces and nephew, Heather Anders and Holly Ratliff, both of Oklahoma City, Amy Rayment of Marion, Ind., and Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Wilcox, currently serving with the U. S. Navy in Leavenworth, Kan.
Janet is also survived by her aunts, Alice (Don) Hanes of Interlochen, Jane Witkop of Traverse City, Tommie Harvey of Lodi, Calif.; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for Janet will take place Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at West Side Community Church with Pastor John Clark officiating. Visitation will also take place at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.
