FIFE LAKE — Kalkaska won an overtime thriller on Monday to open the boys basketball season with an 88-87 victory over Forest Area.
Michael Dunn made a free throw with no time remaining in the extra session to give the Blazers the win.
Forest Area made a furious comeback after trailing by 17 at halftime. Kalkaska came out shooting hot early, knocking down seven first-half 3-pointers to lead 41-24.
Caleb Gelinas led the Blazers with 41 points, Mitchell Dunn added 19 and Michael Dunn posted 11. Will Noble dished out seven assists.
Justin Burke scored 34 for the Warriors, while Chad Roberts racked up 24 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Austin Vance contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds before leaving with an ankle injury.
The Blazers have already matched their win total from a season ago.
TC St. Francis frosh 56 S.S. Marie frosh 43
Andru McFadden led three players in double figures as Traverse City St. Francis topped Sault Ste. Marie 56-43 in a freshman game.
McFadden scored 14 points, while Jake Klinglesmith and Joe Coates each had 11. Dylan Sheehy had eight steals for the Glads (1-0).
Bellaire 59 Boyne Falls 41
Ali Lampman led a balanced Bellaire attack in a 59-41 season-opening victory over Boyne Falls.
Lampman pitched in 14 points and six assists, while Renee Lalone added 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Leighten Koepke chipped in 10 points, six boards and four assists.
Reagan Pedigo paced Boyne with 15 points.
The Eagles (1-0) travel Friday to Central Lake.
Marion 31 GT Academy 14
Marion topped Grand Traverse Academy 31-14.
Autumn Zywicki led the Mustangs with five points. GT Academy travels Wednesday to Brethren.
