TRAVERSE CITY — A man with a long history of drunken driving convictions faces multiple charges after police said he was caught driving with a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit.
Michael Gary Allen, 41, of Traverse City, is charged as a habitual offender with third-offense operating while intoxicated, operating under a suspended license, and having an open alcohol container.
A Grand Traverse sheriff's deputy said he stopped Allen's car on Feb. 1 at the intersection of LaFranier and Hammond roads for several traffic violations, including failure to use a turn signal. A preliminary breath test showed Allen had a blood alcohol content of .308.
Allen has six prior convictions for operating while intoxicated, according to court records, most recently in Utah in 2009.
A preliminary examination is set for Feb. 17 in 86th District Court.
