He was born November 23, 1943, in Detroit to Carl and Marian (Muchi) Salling. Carl was a Detroit Denby High School graduate and an outstanding pitcher; he was named the city-wide MVP two years in a row. He loved traveling with his family, especially to major league stadiums across the country. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, casinos, dog tracks, crossword puzzles, and books on tape. He took pleasure in cooking his "world famous" spaghetti and chili for family and friends. But, most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, two sons and daughter-in-law.
