TRAVERSE CITY — Diana Mary Cox, 92, a homemaker of Traverse City, died peacefully with much love around her on Monday morning, Feb. 4, 2013, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Born July 5, 1920, in Emmet County, she was the daughter of the late Paul B. and Emma (Mitchell) Shomin. On April 19, 1940, in Chapel Hill, Ohio, she married Richard Willard Cox, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Diana was a longtime active member of the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians and was recognized as one of their oldest tribal members.
She loved holiday get-togethers, reading, playing cards, shopping, riding in the car and viewing God's wonderful Northern Michigan landscape.
For those blessed to have known Diana, they will remember her most for her never-ending devotion to her family and friends.
Diana is survived by her daughters, Ryckie (Dan) Skeba, of Cedar, Mary (Edward) Geiger, of Traverse City, and Nita (Bill) Hawes, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Dick, Diana was also preceded in death by her daughter, Billie Rademacher; granddaughter, Amber Wardwell; two sisters, Shirley Crampton and Beulah Anderson; and her brother, Paul B. Shomin.
The family will greet friends at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. For those who would like to celebrate Diana's life, a funeral service will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. Pastor Sam McClellan will officiate. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In remembrance of Diana, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral.
