M. Jane Brawner

FRANKFORT — M. Jane Brawner, 91, of Frankfort, was born on Nov. 15, 1921 and died on Dec. 8, 2012. Jane was born in Charlotte, N.C. to her biological dad, Ernest D. Brawner and her mother Margaret L. Cheney of Aurora, Ill. Jane's step father, from the age of 16, was O. E. Ness, the only father she knew. Jane went to school in Aurora, Ill. from Kindergarten through sixth grade then to Frankfort School from seventh grade through high school. She was a graduate of Olivet College, Olivet, Mich. and she received a degree from Michigan State University.

Jane never married and didn't have any children. After she retired in 1976 she was a caregiver for her mother for 13 years.

Jane lived in Owosso for many years where she was a school teacher for 27 years.

Jane was a lifelong member of the Congregational Churches in Aurora, Ionia, Owosso and Frankfort. She was in the choir where ever she lived.

She has no relatives in Mich. but leaves relatives in Omaha, Neb. and cousin Mim Petterson in Miss.

Jane lived at Michigan Shores for 10 years. She had previously owned a home in the Congregational Summer Assembly. She moved from Michigan Shores to the Frankfort Pines and was in residence there until her death.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Jowett Family Funeral Home, Benzonia, with Rev. Dinah Haag officiating. There will be an hour visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Crystal Lake Twp Cemetery North in the spring. Memorials may be directed to the Frankfort Congregational Church.
