Phyllis E. (Tuohy) Waldby

SOUTH TORCH LAKE — Phyllis E. (Tuohy) Waldby, of South Torch Lake, went to be with the Lord Aug. 5, 2012. She was born in Jackson in 1922, the daughter of Lee and Edith Tuohy.

She graduated as class Salutatorian from Concord High School.

She married Ronald Waldby in 1944 and later moved to East Lansing for Ronald to attend Michigan State Veterinary College. They moved to Traverse City in 1955 to establish a veterinary clinic, where she worked as an assistant.

After retirement they moved to Torch Lake and spent many years traveling the U.S. and Mexico.

She was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church, participating in the choir for 35 years, and was a lifetime member of Federated Garden Club and local Juniper Garden Club of South Torch Lake. She also enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines of Traverse City for 16 years.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Rowe, of Rapid City; son, Ramon (Kay), of Florida; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was truly loved and will be missed by her extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by parents and three siblings.

A memorial service is to be held on Aug. 12, 2012, at 3 p.m., at the Alden United Methodist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Elk Rapids.
