Student suspended for writing about professor

ROCHESTER — A 56-year-old Oakland University student has been suspended for three semesters and barred from campus after writing about an attraction to his professor for an assignment.

Joseph Corlett, of Oakland County's Orion Township, told The Oakland Press of Pontiac that the writing journal assignment for the Advanced Critical Writing class could be on any topic.

He said a November entry was "Hot for Teacher," based on the Van Halen song.

School spokesman David Groves said in an email Tuesday that the school didn't have any immediate comment because it was a "student conduct matter."

A committee including school administrators, professors and students found Corlett engaged in intimidating behavior.

Corlett appealed. His lawyer Brian Vincent says Corlett "has every right to his education" at the school in the Detroit suburb of Rochester.
