Eva Ascione

KALKASKA — Eva Ascione, age 88, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at her home in Kalkaska. She was born in 1924 in Hartstown, Pa. to the late Filippo and Antonia (Dabaldo) Capaldi.

Eva married Angelo Ascione on Aug. 31, 1946 in Detroit where they raised their five children. They moved to Kalkaska in 1969. Eva and Angelo were married for 43 wonderful years when Angelo passed away in 1990.

Eva retired at the age of 82 after being a full-time business owner and grocery store owner her whole life. Since her retirement from Northland Food and Family Center, Eva spent most of her days serving at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska. As a member of St. Mary of the Woods, Eva was a member of the choir, assisted parishioners in getting to church, and helped in preparing meals for events at the church.

Eva is survived by her loving children, Carol Jeanne (Gary) Buskirk of Gaylord, Janet Mary (Gary) LaCroix of Summerfield, Fla., Ronald Gene (Janice) Ascione of Williamsburg, Denise (James) Kessner of Williamsburg, and Nick Ascione of Kalkaska; her dear siblings, Mary Lanza of South Lyon, Nicolina Patrello of Holly, Sabatino Capaldi of Calif., Olympia Meteer of St. Louis, Mo., and Loretta (Al) Powell of Canton Twp.; 16 cherished grandchildren; and 12 precious great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Angelo; and her brothers, Americo, Anthony, and Phillip.

Visitation for Eva will be held from 4 to 8 p.m, Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church with Rev. Norman Dickson, S.J. officiating.

Memorials may be given in Eva's name to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 438 County Rd. 612 NE, Kalkaska, MI 49646.
