The Traverse City Wolves opened their Great Midwest Football League season Saturday night with a 28-0 win over the Southeast Michigan Mercenaries.
The Wolves defense forced six turnovers, including two early in the game that resulted in touchdowns.
Safety Shane Pennington returned an interception 38 yards for a score less than a minute into the game.
On the next possession, tackle Raudel Gomez recovered a fumble at the Mercenaries 5-yard-line. Davonn Cooper took it in from a yard out to make 14-0 less than five minutes in.
Traverse City limited the Mercenaries to 146 yards in total offense. Pennington had two picks.
Traverse City opens its home schedule this weekend, hosting the Lakeshore Cougars.
The Cougars (1-0), last season's division champion, beat the Wolves twice a year ago.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
