AUBURN HILLS -- Petoskey's Kegan Arthur will wrestle for the state Division 2 135-pound state championship today at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Arthur (55-3) pinned Stevensville-Lakeshore's Payne Hayden in 1:52 to advance to the title bout against Allegan's Jaylyn Bohl.
Traverse City St. Francis' Isaiah Schaub and Paul Britten will attempt to work their way back through the Division 4 consolation bracket on Saturday to wrestle for third place in their weight classes after semifinal losses Friday evening.
Schaub dropped an 11-2 match at 119 pounds to Manchester's Austin Deacons. Next up, he'll face the winner of Hudson's Dakota Kelly and Homer's Brock Nelson today.
Britten dropped a 189-pound semifinal to Hudson's Matt Smith by fall in 1:18. Britten will next face the winner of Schoolcraft's Brandon McNees and Springport's Joe Ericson.
Kingsley' Austin Sanchez is the final area wrestler still alive in the tournament. He dropped a 135-pound Division 3 match to Bullock Creek's Ryen Nieman by pin in 3:49.
If Schaub (52-4), Britten (48-9) or Sanchez (46-7) win their first match today, they'll move on to wrestle for third place. The trio can place no lower than sixth.
