INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Traverse City Bulldogs rallied to defeat Landmark Christian (Ohio) 40-37 in the Indianapolis regional final of the National Christian Homeschool Championships.
The Bulldogs trailed 20-9 in the first half, as Landmark was led by All-American Rachel Young.
But in the second half, the defense of Sarah Morrison held Young to just one field goal attempt.
Ellisha Crosby scored 19 points and had 16 rebounds for TC, while Rachel Crosby added 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Karlie Atton scored seven points -- all in the first half.
The Bulldogs downed Lakeland (Ind.) Academy 59-41 on Thursday and the Indy Trailblazers 50-47 on Friday.
The regional victory guarantees the Bulldogs a No. 1 seed in the national tournament in March in Springfield, Missouri.
The state homeschool playoffs kick off on Feb. 26-27.
In the meantime, the Bulldogs (19-1) travel to Northport on Monday.
WRESTLING
Glads' Schaub, Britten; Manton's Ashley move on
Traverse City St. Francis' Isaiah Schaub and Paul Britten both advanced to the state finals for the second straight year.
Both Gladiator wrestlers were 2-1 in regionals at Rogers City, dropping a 4-3 decision in the finals.
Last year, Schaub placed third in the state at 112 pounds. He is 51-3 at 119 this season.
Britten has a 46-8 mark at 189 pounds.
Schaub dropped the regional final to Hesperia's Mike Dunbar, 4-3, while Britten fell by the same score in the 189 final to Hart's Kim Martin.
Manton's David Ashley qualified at 119 pounds, going 2-2 to place fourth. He is 37-9 this season and qualified two seasons ago as a sophomore at 103 pounds.
